In serving the Hamilton-Niagara Region, we Fedcap Canada would like to acknowledge and honour our presence on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Attawandaron (Neutral), Erie, Haudenosaunee, Huron Wendat, Ojibway/Chippewa and Mississaugas nations. This territory is covered by the Haldimand Proclamation, the Upper Canada Treaties and within it the lands protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe. This agreement is intended for all nations who dwell on this territory to respectfully and sustainably care for and share the resources of this land.
We recognize that every day we are gathering, learning and working on these ancestral, traditional and historic Indigenous lands. We acknowledge that this region in which we are operating is home to many First Nations, Inuit, Metis and other indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We are committed to honour and protect the rich history of this land. This recognition starts as a first step in honouring the contributions that the Indigenous peoples have made and reflect a commitment to making Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities.
We honour, with gratitude, the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. As settlers, we stand in solidarity with all Indigenous peoples and are mindful that we must take action and strive to be better stewards.
